
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has reiterated Egypt's support for all UN efforts to reach a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis based on the outcome of national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and relevant Security Council resolutions.
Shoukry, in a meeting with UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed earlier Tuesday, also discussed the latest developments in Yemen, with focus on the security, political and humanitarian conditions, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The UN envoy posted Shoukry on the outcome of his contacts to address the situation in al Hudaida province, stressing that this is key to reaching a ceasefire in Yemen before direct negotiations start between the different Yemeni factions to reach a comprehensive settlement, Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry told Ould Cheikh Ahmed that Cairo is following up with great concern developments in Yemen, the spokesman added.
He said the top diplomat also pressed for a unified international stance to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
