
Palestine's Fatah movement issued a statement welcoming “the victory of the great Egyptian people.” Fatah spokesman Ahmad Assaf said in the statement that his movement and Palestinian people in general welcome the victory of the “Egyptian will” that will “continuously make history by reaching its goals.” Assaf said Egyptian people remain at the forefront of Arab nations, adding that the June 30 revolution will lead to a bright future towards democracy and freedom, as well as ensure Egypt and the Arab world's position on the international and regional scenes. The spokesman furthermore said that Palestinian people and their national leadership will never forget the sacrifices Egyptian people and the army have made for their national cause, adding that Palestinians now feel more hopeful for the future, for being able to restore their national rights and establishing an independent Palestinian state. Assaf concluded by saying that a "Free and democratic Egypt, will regain its role as the greatest supporter of Palestinian people and of all Arab nations."
