The European Union Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst has expressed EU's hopes that Lebanon's elections will be held within the constitutional framework and on time. Eichhorst is also the head of the EU delegation in Lebanon which met today with the Secretary-General of the ministry of foreign affairs, Ambassador Wafik Rahimi to discuss the possibility of EU monitoring of the elections. Eichhorst said the meeting also discussed the regional situation, the outcome of the Arab-Russian Forum held recently in Moscow and the general situation in Lebanon, including elections and security. Noting that the deciding on an electoral law is a Lebanese issue, she stressed the need for the legislation to be "consensual" and expressed hope the elections will be held on time.
