Cairo - Khaled Hassanin

An ongoing crisis at Egypt’s iconic state broadcasting building Maspero has been temporarily resolved, after striking workers received part of wage packets in some cases delayed by four months. High-profile workers, including television presenters, directors and researchers would top a list of workers receiving their pay. Thousands of Maspero employees had staged a sit-in outside the Nile-side building in Cairo on Tuesday. Unrest has rocked Maspero in recent weeks since it was announced Qatari investors were looking to buy the building, which was founded by President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1959. Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi’s government has also announced cutbacks on facilities at the state broadcaster, including restricting on-air times to 1000 hrs to 2200 hrs and removing correspondents from across the region.
