Egyptian military aircraft were deployed to follow protests in the Canal city of Port Said on Friday, as demonstrators continued demands for President Mohammed Morsi to stand down from power. Commander of the Second Army, Field General Ahmed Wasfy, meanwhile visited the city’s injured, currently being treated in the Suez Canal University hospital. Thousands of the city’s residents participated in demonstrations following noon prayers on Friday, demanding retribution for martyrs killed in recent clashes. Marchers chanted against the ruling regime, saying: “The people want to overthrow the regime!” Ismailian residents and activists also took to the streets, although bad weather did prevent a number of marches from participating in el-Mamar Square protests. National Salvation Front [NSF] member, Mohamed Hosni, expressed his solidarity with demonstrators in Tahrir Square and other public areas across Egypt. Al-Dustour party official Ahmed Fouad Ameen also stressed that the revolution’s founding demands were yet to be realised, dismissing President Mohammed Morsi’s regime as a “failure.”
