Centre Party politician Mahmoud Mahsoub has warned the Egyptian army to keep out of politics in a Facebook post on Thursday. Mahsoub said the country’s military should not “make itself party to political conflict or else it will damage its role as the protector of the state.” The Centre Party figure also attacked politicians trying to involve the army in clashes which have pitted a range of anti-government demonstrations against President Mohammed Morsi’s administration. These attempts “cancel out the revolution’s principal gain,” he said, which had excluded the military establishment from political life. "We believe no political group is able to become dictatorial so long as the army remains the main deterrent force, uninfluenced by political conflicts,” Mahsoub claimed.
