Egypt's army has begun an operation to demolish tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Military sources said that officers, who were moved to the Egyptian city of Rafah earlier in the week, used bulldozers to destroy tunnels which have functioned as the life-line to the besieged Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Israeli siege in 2006. Security was intensified on Egypt-Gaza borders Wednesday following the ouster of Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi. Locals in Rafah said that the army demolished at least six tunnels on Thursday. They explained that military vehicles with heavy automatic guns were protecting the bulldozers. Resident claimed the operation has been underway since March.
