Security sources in Rafah confirmed that four tunnels were destroyed near the Gaza Strip border using bulldozers. The smugglers involved managed to escape, although a large amount of steel, which was going to be smuggled into Gaza, was seized by security. Spokesperson for Egypt's armed forces, Ahmed Mohammed Ali, said that the border guard security had managed to prevent a "major smuggling operation" where a number of commodities including cement, clothes, food, wood and tyres were to be transported. Ali added that the military institution will be intensifying operations around the Gazan border to prevent future smuggling attempts and to arrest those involved.
