Egypt’s General Security Authority, headed by director Major General Ahmed Helmi, has continued its large-scale campaign across the country, targeting crime centres in pursuit of outlaws including drug, firearm and knife dealers; sentenced fugitives and prisoners who escaped in the events of the January 2011 revolution. The 24-hour campaigns, arranged in coordination with local security directorates and the Central Security sector across the country, seized 74 RPG weapon systems, five RPG grenades, one Grinov machine gun, 13 automatic rifles, five modified rifles, six handguns, 84 locally-manufactured pieces, 1,158 piece of ammunition and 233 knives. Two prison inmates who had escaped in the events of the revolution were also captured along with 194 suspects apprehended under drugs-related charges. In their possession were 94 kilograms of cannabis, 44,485 kilograms of hashish (cannabis), 231 grams of heroin, 200 grams of opium and 45,315 prescription pills. Eight gangs including 25 suspects accused of in 30 separate incidents of theft were apprehended. 14 suspects accused of acts of "thuggery" and theft under threat, were also apprehended and two locally-manufactured firearms and seven knives were found in their possession. 17,220 rulings various kinds of court rulings were enforced. 141 unlicensed motorbikes were seized and 23 cars reported stolen were recovered.
