London- Arab Today
Two trains collided head-on Monday in western Switzerland, leaving at least 40 people were injured, police and local media said. The accident occurred in the municipality of Granges-Marnard, near the city of Lausanne, in the western French-speaking region of the country around 0700 pm (1700 GMT), police said. The trains crashed approximately 100 meters away from a rail station, as one headed towards Lausanne, according to local commuter newspaper 20 Minutes. Fire departments and ambulances were on the scene. A helicopter was also dispatched. Traffic was interrupted on part of the line which links the cities of Palezieux and Payerne, the federal railways said. The accident comes just days after a speeding train roared off the tracks in the small Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela, killing 79 people and leaving scores more injured.
