Cairo - Ali Ragab

Dozens of members of Egypt's Dostoor Party submitted their resignation to protest against the position the chairman of the party, Mohamed ElBaradei, against the Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in Cairo’s Rabaa el-Adaweya and al-Nahda squares. The members blame ElBaradei, who is also Egypt’s interim vice president, for not taking harsh measure in dealing with the Brotherhood protesters. The resigned members issued a statement saying they object to the fact that the party has no clear policy towards Islamist parties, including the Muslim Brotherhood, which has led to Doostor being infiltrated by Islamist. According to the statement, this has meant that several Dostoor members have taken part in the Brotherhood sit-ins that demand former Islamist president Mohammed Morsi be reinstated. It added that a number of “non-qualified” people are dominating the leading positions of the party, which has led to infighting. Elbaradei is also blamed for his recent statement calling for national reconciliation to include the Muslim Brotherhood, which according to the resigned party members contradicts the objectives of the June 30 revolution.
