ouagadougou - Arab Today

The total number of refugees reached 33,000 people in Burkina Faso, of which 32,229 Malian citizens as of May this year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said Saturday.

This year, Burkina Faso has set to organize official celebration of the World Refugee Day that falls on June 20 in the northern part of the country where most of Malian refugees found home.

As Mali and Burkina Faso share border, the unrest situation in the country, since 2012, caused many of its citizens to move to the neighboring Burkina Faso.

To date, refugees obtain support from World food program that recently said it needs 2.5 million U.S. dollars of emergency aid to provide assistance to Malian refugees
