Beirut - Georges Chahine

Former MP Michel Samaha was interrogated a second time on Friday by military investigator Riad Abu Ghida in the presence of Samaha's lawyer Malik Jamil al-Sayyed.  The interrogation went on for two hours, after which the judge Abu Ghida postponed the session until after Eid al-Fitr  (end of Ramadan feast) at the request of the defence attorneys. Some sources close to the defense attorneys said Samaha had not been questioned in the session, but the defense attorney had made some demands including summoning the witness  Milad Kfoury who has registered records of Samaha’s accusation in a confrontation with  Michel Samaha. In this context, judicial sources spoke to Arabstoday emphasising that the evidence is both stable and powerful in this file but when Samaha backed away from the testimony which he gave to the Information Branch, Judge Abu Ghida was forced to start re-questioning from the beginning. He studied the course of the investigations and will take appropriate action after reviewing all aspects of the investigation. The internal security forces announced the display of the explosives and their attachments at three in the afternoon, in the General Directorate building of the of Internal Security Forces in Ashrafieh, in front of the media based on relevant court references in this regard by the general attorney.  The relevant court withdrew this order, after minister of Justice Chakib Crdobawi asked the judge Samir Hammoud not to display them. Security sources alleged the explosives to weigh about 110 kilograms and be in 24 packets, four of them in the form of gas bottles each weighing 20 kilograms in addition to 20 explosives in circular form with a weight of between one kilogram and a half kilogram attached to the bottom of cars. All he charges can be activated  from a distance. An official source at the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces told Arabstoday the explosives are similar to the explosives that were used in the assassination attempt against his media colleague May Chidiac and the explosion that killed Samir Kassir and George Hawi. The source Indicated that they are comparing the explosives used in the three explosions and the explosives that  Samaha allegedly transported. These tests are in local and international laboratories.
