Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed that the Palestinian cause remains a priority to Syria despite the circumstances Damascus has been witnessing. Assad made the remark during his meeting Monday with Palestinian Authority envoy Abbas Zaki. The Palestinian cause and adherence to the legitimate historic rights of the Palestinian people will remain a priority for Syria, he said, adding that the current events in Syria did not change the attitude of the Syrian people towards their Palestinian brethren in Syria. Zaki, for his part, said that the Palestinian people support Syria in the face of the aggression targeting it. He further said that attempts to deplete the resources of the Syrian people and army is part of a larger plan aimed at dividing the countries of the region and weakening them to serve Israel's interests.
