
Prosecution team in Arish have opened up an investigation into the killing of Major Mohamed Sayed Abdel Aziz Abu Shaqra, an officer in North Sinai's Security Directorate. The security officer was killed during a fire exchange between gunmen on June 9 in Arish, the capital of Egypt's tumultuous North Sinai governorate. Witnesses said four masked people attacked the officer, exchanging fire and stealing his police car and weapons. The witnesses added that one of the criminals was also injured during the incident, and had to be carried by the rest of the gunmen to escape. Prosecutor Mohamed Reda el-Wakeel has demanded the investigation to be conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department, stressing for the arrest of those involved as soon as possible.
