Algeria, Damascus - Sufian Si Youssef/Agencies
Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci revealed on Tuesday that an agreement was reached in Doha between the Arab League committee in charge of ending the violence in Syria with the Syrian authorities. This occurred during a meeting of the Follow-up Committee for the Arabic Peace initiative with the Syrians. Medelci expressed his hopes of confirming the agreement in Cairo in the  meeting of the Arab League Council next Tuesday. Tuesday also witnessed the killing of eight Syrians, six of whom were shot dead by the Syrian security forces, while an officer and a soldier were killed by who believed to be dissidents, according to Syrian human rights sources.  Medelci arrived to Cairo on Tuesday morning to attend the meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, scheduled for Wednesday, that will consider the results of the Ministerial Arabic Committee for Syria. The Algerian foreign minister declared last weekend that the detailed results of the visit would be announced within a few days, and that they had agreed on what Qatari prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani  stated to the media, who described the atmosphere of the meeting as positive. A senior diplomat in the Arab League in Cairo said earlier that Syria will give a final response on Tuesday, to the Qatari officials on the Arabic initiative aimed at stopping the violence to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria. The diplomat said that Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem, "requested, on Monday, amendments to the Arabic initiative, and has the approval on some minor edits”. He added that the Arab delegation asked him for a final response Tuesday to the Arab initiative, in order to have the Syrian position clear before the meeting of Arab foreign ministers scheduled for Wednesday in Cairo. Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil Al-Arabi told AFP on Tuesday that the Arab plan for Syria includes the withdrawal of military vehicles from the streets and an immediate end to the violence, initiating a dialogue between the regime and the components of the opposition. Al-Arabi had warned Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad of the consequences of any Western intervention against Damascus, and said that the invasion would lead to an "earthquake" sufficient to destroy the whole region, while Assad said in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph newspaper, published on Sunday, that" Syria today is the center of the region and any Western intervention will cause an earthquake." before he warned:" Do you want to see another Afghanistan or dozens of Afghanistans? ", stressing that" any problem in Syria would burn the whole region if the plan is to divide Syria; this means the division of the entire region." The Syrian President was aware that the Western powers "will inevitably intensify their pressure" on his regime, but stressed that "Syria is totally different from Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen,” saying" history is different, and the political situation is different." Meanwhile, another citizen was killed in Bab al-Seba'a of injuries after he was shot earlier roday by "Shabiha", raising the number of civilian deaths who were killed today in Homs to two. The Syrian Observatory of Human Rights noted that intensive gunfire was heard in the neighborhoods of Bab el-Seba'a, Bab el-Dreb, Karm el-Zaiton, and The Displaced". Shortly after that, in the province of Idlib, security and military forces stormed a high school in the town of Kafrnabl and arrested about 60 students who were demonstrating in the school yard. The Observatory said that an officer and a soldier of the Syrian army's were killed, while  another soldier was wounded after an ambush by gunmen believed to be dissidents on the road between Sirmin and Saraqeb. In Saraqeb, in the same governorate, a citizen was killed after a shooting in a   security barrier south to the city on Tuesday afternoon. The same source noted that security forces Deir al-Zour were firing live ammo "to disperse mass demonstrations in Al-Mowazafin and Aljebilah in Deir Al-Zour, while the body of a young man arrested by the security services on Monday was found on Tuesday morning in the town of Alqoriah. In Reef Damascus, an 18-year-old man died of injuries after he was shot by live ammo by security forces in the city of Doma, while in Damascus, security forces have arrested about 10 students, including pupils in primary stages in front of their schools to stop a student demonstration. Two students were arrested in the city of Latakia, according to activists. Syrian security forces cracked down in Daraa, with 13 activist arrested in Nemer Town during a raid while another four were arrested in Jassem Town, along with the arrest of three people in the village of al-Sohoda, and 22 others in Taiha. The Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that massive rallies went out Tuesday morning in Seven Bahrat Square in the province of Deir al-Zour, in support of the "comprehensive reform program, led by President Bashar al-Assad,a rejection of the foreign interventions of Syria's domestic affairs, and an address to the plot that faced the country."
