Algeria's Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci has reiterated the importance of achieving a political solution to the Syrian conflict. Speaking in a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Kamel Amr, Medelci predicted that the Geneva international conference would not take place before Autumn. The Algerian official claimed that although the peaceful solution is the best solution for Syria, the scenario is complicated with the multiplicity of parties. Medelci added that several countries are in favour of holding the international conference and bringing an end to the fighting. However, he disclosed that the conference is unlikely to be held in July, even though he has urged the UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi to set a date as soon as possible.
