Algiers - Hocine Bou Saleh
The Algerian Foreign Minister's spokesman Amer Blaney mentioned Sunday in Algiers that the Algerian authorities protested measures described as insulting against Algerian nationals at Frankfurt Airport. In May two Algerians were detained for three days at Frankfurt airport before being refused entry to the country despite having the neccessary Visas and paperwork. The Algerians were employees of the National Enterprise of Graphic Arts. The German ambassador in Algeria was recalled by Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci who informed her that Algerian government is very worried by this irresponsible action from Frankfurt airport officials as a number of Algerian passengers who have visas to enter German airports have been transferred to other officials, a matter which bothered the travelers due to the difficulties they faced. Mr. Blaney added that talks between Mourad Medelci and the German ambassador stressed the importance of keeping Algerian citizen's dignity, as such actions are not appropriate to the nature of the relations between both countries which is based on cooperation. The meeting resulted in organising another future meeting including the two parties to discuss and evaluate this issue in its political, economic and social dimensions. Algerian nationals have previously been harassed abroad, where most recently actions have been taken by the United States against allowing the entry of Algerian citizens, Qatar prevented Algerian residence and announced measures accusing the Algerian regime of supporting Muammar Gaddafi against the Libyan revolution. These issues were not accepted by the Algerian stated and led to the recalling of the ambassadors to those countries, describing their actions as non-acceptable.
