A bomb attack in Boumerdes, 50km east of the Algerian capital Algiers, injured five members of the Algerian Gendarmerie on Sunday, leaving one in a critical condition. A young female civilian was also injured in the blast. The explosive, which targeted a patrol of the Algerian National Gendarmerie between Baghlia district and the town of Dellys in Boumerdes on Sunday evening, was detonated remotely by attackers. The bomb was planted on National Road 25 on the edge of Baghlia city, and exploded once the patrol had passed. Algeria’s National Security Directorate is investigating the attack, the second in eastern Algeria in one week. A gun attack on security forces on Tuesday evening left three police officers dead in the town of Azeffoun in Tizi Ouzou province. Hundreds of Azeffoun residents took to the streets on Sunday to condemn terrorism and express their anger about the deadly assault.
