Abdel-Jabbar al-Akeed, leader of Aleppo's military council, stressed the need to eliminate the armed wing of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD). Although, he described the Kurds as "brothers" he still stressed the need to eliminate those affiliated to the party. The Kurdish community has rebuked al-Akeed's statements, saying that his comments " reflect his support for extremist groups" including Al-Nusra Front who are affiliated to al-Qaeda. Such controversy may undermine the position adopted by Kurds expressing support for the Free Syrian Army. Some Kurdish parties have described the statements as a "declaration of war against Kurdish areas" and have warned against repercussions which may lead to a Kurdish-Arab war.
