Ramallah - Sona Adeek
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the settler attacks on Palestinians citizens and their property which has recently escalated, is under the protection of the Israeli army, explaining that the army could prevent those attacks if it wanted to prevent them. Because these attacks happens in front of the Israeli army, and the army does not move a muscle, confirming that this is evidence of the racial policy that still lives in the army and the settlers. In broadcast statement, President Abbas called on the Israeli government and the U.S. administration to work to stop these barbaric acts. The latest attack was the brutal assault on a Palestinian family near Bethlehem on Thursday, in which six of its members were injured. He stressed that this heinous criminal act cannot be accepted in any way. On the United Nations’ approach to obtain the membership of Palestine next September, the President said we were under pressure in the previous periods to prevent us from going to the Security Council, but we went and did not pay attention to this. We only pay attention to the interests of the Palestinian people and the interests of our national fair cause. The president said that the pressure might occur in the future from different sides that do not want us to be a member of the United Nations, like the rest of the world. The president said that: "Last time (last September), we have not been able to obtain a sufficient number of countries in the UN Security Council, but in this session, we will apply for a State that is not a member of the General Assembly. We are very confident we will get a huge majority, because 133 countries recognise a Palestinian state. In addition to that, most of the "world has representative offices in Palestine, and thus it is not difficult to get recognition. Regarding national reconciliation the President said: "Since the day the coup took place in the Gaza Strip and until the present day, we have been working to achieve reconciliation. Egypt, has done everything it could do and invested all their energies to complete the reconciliation." He said: "A number of meetings took place in Cairo and Doha, after which it was finally agreed that the Central Election Commission would work in the Gaza Strip and up to the presidential, legislative, and the National Council elections. However, ."Hamas stopped the work of the Commission in the last minute, and we do not know yet why Hamas did this
