Four people have been killed and 10 others injured in a supposedly "accidental" air strike by Sudanese Air Force jets in Dreib Al Rieh in the western state of South Darfur. South Darfur’s deputy governor Abdelkereem Moussa, who attended the victims' funeral, has been quoted by local media as saying the strike was “not intentional.” A committee will be formed to investigate the incident, he announced. Local eyewitnesses said a military aeroplane pursuing rebels had "accidentally" fired a missile. Parts of South Darfur are overridden with armed militias, including the Suliman Arcua Minnaw-led faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). The Sudanese government claims the rebel group, and other militant factions, are backed by the South Sudanese government, aimed at destabilising the Darfur region.
