Zachary Confections Inc. in Indiana said it is voluntarily recall some lots of its Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs potentially tainted with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Zachary Confections initiated the recall in response to a test indicating the potential for Salmonella contamination in a sample taken during routine post-production testing from one of the production lots of product. Out of an abundance of caution, Zachary Confections is recalling all lots of product that might have been affected. The product is packaged in white egg crates with purple, green and yellow lettering and say Zachary Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Egg Crates 5 ounce, Product # 31-797, 1 00 75186 31797 3; 0 75186 15797 8; D3245D; D3145E; F3145E; D3245E; Feb. 14. The recalled product was manufactured Feb. 20-21 and was shipped Feb. 21-22 to some retail stores located in sections of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Consumers who purchased the recalled products should destroy or return them where they were purchased.
