The world's first woman ever to receive a successful uterus transplant from a dead donor is pregnant according to early test results after an in vitro fertilisation treatment, her doctors said Friday. "The early test results within the past two weeks are consistent with expected pregnancy symhptoms. The patient's over all health condition is fine," said Prof. Mustafa Unal, chief physician at a university hospital in Turkey's Antalya province, where Derya Sert, the 22-year-old Turkish patient, underwent the world's first cadaveric uterus transplant in August 2011. Her doctors waited a year and a half before initiating her fertility treatment. The embryo implantation was made on April 1.
