The number of deaths in the current Ebola outbreak has exceeded in West Africa. According to a World Health Organization report released this week, 5,177 people have died from the disease in six countries, with Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea having the highest tolls.
In Liberia alone, it is nearing 3,000. Mali, Nigeria, and Senegal are the West African countries with imported cases of Ebola. In Mali, there have been four reported cases, three of them deaths.
The WHO says the figures are underestimates given the difficulty of collecting the data, and has warn of greater spread by the end of the month, if international efforts are not stepped up.
