Vietnam has detected the A/H5N6 virus in poultries for the first time in the country, according to the Department of Veterinary under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday.
The website of Vietnamese government on Thursday quoted the information from the department as saying that the A/H5N6 virus has been found in poultries at farms in northern Lang Son province some 130 km north of capital Hanoi and central Ha Tinh province some 300 km south of Hanoi.
The genome sequences of A/H5N6 virus found in Vietnamese poultries are 99 percent similar with the virus found in China's Sichuan in April 2014, which cause fatality in humans.
To prevent the transmission of the virus from poultry to human, Vietnam's Ministry of Health has asked localities to strengthen monitoring, detecting avian flu outbreaks, preventing poultry smuggling and closely controlling the transport of poultries.
