The Training Gate International (TGI) is poised to hold the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in early December for the fifth successive year, the TGI director-general said here on Thursday.
The conference will be held under the rubric: "Sustainable Development ... Era of Technology" and will feature several seminars, workshops and specialized lectures, Kifayah Al-Alban told a news conference.
The convention of such conferences and events in Kuwait demonstrates the civilized image of this Gulf nation worldwide, she boasted.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was adopted by the United Nations in 1982, with December 3 having been set as a date for marking the Day, Al-Alban pointed out.
The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
For her part, Deputy Director-General of the TGI Noura Al-Othman said that a significant workshop would be held on the sidelines of the conference, with high-profile experts in the field of disabilities from several countries, mainly the US, to be key speakers.
It mainly aims to spotlight the dire need for developing knowledge in the domain of disabilities and making use of relevant expertise, she pointed out.
The Training Gate International (TGI) is a non-profit organization established in July, 2009, as the first and only one of its kind in Kuwait to operate as a specialized human resources development organization focusing, in collaboration with international partners, on training and skills development for people with disabilities.
