Suspected Ebola case causes panic in Poland

Polish press informed on Friday evening about a suspected case of Ebola virus in the Polish seaside town of Gdynia. The man suspected of being infected with Ebola virus had the symptoms of the disease, however he seems to have malaria instead.
The man, who is of Nigerian origin, has been living in Poland for ten years, but recently travelled to his native country. He reported to the Gdynia University Center for Maritime and Tropical Medicine and was taken to the Hospital for Infectious Disease soon after.
Head of Department of Health from the Pomeranian Regional Office in Gdansk, Jerzy Karpinski said the case cannot be ultimately confirmed until all of the necessary patient's examinations results are assessed.
The medical center where the patient was first admitted has introduced a temporary ban on admission of patients. Deputy Director from Pomeranian Sanitary-Epidemiological Station, Anna Obuchowska informed that most probably the man suffers from malaria.
The Polish Minister of Health, Bartosz Arlukowicz also assured that the man is under a constant care and observation.
Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a disease caused by a virus of the family Filoviridae. There are five identified species of Ebola virus; only four are responsible for infecting humans. Fruit bats are suspected of carrying the virus and being it's reservoir.
