Santorum: Romney vulnerable on healthcare

Rick Santorum predicted Sunday that Mitt Romney would be vulnerable in a debate over healthcare reform if he became the Republican presidential nominee. Santorum pitched the idea that Romney's record on healthcare policy was too close to the "Obamacare" plan so loathed by conservatives. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," Santorum predicted Obama would be able to counterpunch against Romney based on the measures the Republican front-runner backed when he was governor of Massachusetts. "The reason Republicans were able to sweep back into the control of the House of Representatives and make gains in the Senate and governorships is because we had an issue that talked about freedom, and talked about whether government should be controlling your health care choices," Santorum said. Santorum accused Romney of fudging his positions on healthcare reform and other issues such as climate change in order to downplay his "top-down control that will not make the kind of contrast with Barack Obama that we absolutely need if we are going to win this election."
