HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani formally opened Al Wakra Hospital on Wednesday morning. HH the Emir cut the ribbon, marking the opening of the hospital. HH the Emir then was briefed with the medical services provided by the hospital, including medical care units, operating rooms, departments of heart disease, kidney disease, gynecology and obstetrics, ophthalmology, orthopedic, pediatric and intensive care unit for adults. HH the Emir toured a number of the hospital’s departments and units which are equipped with the latest medical technology, including Cardiology and Endocrinology departments as well as emergency departments and laboratories, HH the Emir also listen to a detailed explanation from the doctors about the health services provided to patients and the specialized units and care rooms in addition to operating rooms equipped with the best technology to be used for the purposes of teaching and learning or to receive interventions from specialist doctors abroad. After that, HH the Emir was briefed on a number of ambulances equipped with the latest modern technology. The opening was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and Ministers in addition to dignitaries and officials of the health sector in the country. The main building of Al Wakra Hospital has six floors and includes 210 beds with an absorptive capacity to add more 50 beds besides 96 beds for critical care. The hospital, which has a building area of 130,000 square meters, provides specialized medical services and equipped with the latest equipment. It also has a number of departments, including emergency departments for adults, children and obstetrics, urinary tract, dental, ENT, MRI and PET-CT scanner.
