
The State of Qatar will join the world's countries in marking Glaucoma Awareness Week between March 8 and 14, under slogan ‘Beat Invisible Glaucoma'.
The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) organizes a number of activities on this occasion about eye health and blindness prevention and awareness of glaucoma patients and early diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.
Dr. Sheikha Al Anood Bint Mohammad Al-Thani, Director of health and non-communicable diseases at the Supreme Council of health (SCH) said that health awareness is a fundamental goal of the SCH, which is keen to invest such global days and weeks in intensifying community health education.
She stressed the importance of early detection and prevention of glaucoma, one of the biggest eye disease causing blindness in Qatar and come in first place as a major cause of blindness for people over the age of 40 years, according to the results of comprehensive medical survey carried out by the National Commission for the prevention of blindness in 2009, she added.
