HRH Princess Lalla Salma, Chairwoman of the Lalla Salma Association for the Fight Against Cancer (ALSLC), inaugurated, on Monday in Fez, "The House of Life" meant to provide care for the cancer patients and their relatives. Her Royal Highness visited the different outbuildings of this facility, whose role will be to facilitate access to treatment by reducing the difficulties of accommodation due to the factor of distance and encourage patients to follow their treatment regularly. Built and equipped by the Lalla Salma Association for the Fight Against Cancer, in partnership with the Jamai Group, the new unit will benefit some 1,200 patients annually. With a capacity of 48 beds, it has lounges, meeting rooms, administrative offices, a psycho-oncology hall and play areas. Covering an area of nearly 2,240 sqm, "The House of Life" will provide patients and their families with a psychological and moral support, in a friendly environment allowing them to benefit from a stay and adequate social activities. Patients admitted in priority are those whose place of residence is farthest from the oncology center, located inside the Hassan II Hospital of Fez, and those who are being treated at an outpatient oncology center and whose resources are limited. The Lalla Salma Association for the Fight Against Cancer, which is dedicated to creating nearby homes of living close to each cancer center, ensures that residents of these areas of temporary accommodation are surrounded by a team composed of multidisciplinary health professionals, psychologists and social workers. A group of volunteers ensures the different social and cultural activities, organizing outings, dinners, musical evenings, as well as education sessions. The ALSC has built, to date, five houses of life: Two have opened since 2007 (Casablanca and Agadir) and three more will open this year (Fez, Casablanca for children and Marrakech). Two other houses of life are under construction, one in Meknes and the other in Tangier. Since its inception in 2005, the ALSC works, with all its partners, to make the fight against cancer a public health priority in Morocco and the region. The Association is also active in the field of scientific research, increasing partnerships in Morocco and abroad. Upon her arrival at the "House of Life", HRH Princess Lalla Salma was notably greeted by Moustapha Moulay Alaoui Ismaili, Inspector General of Health, and Mohamed Derdouri, Wali of the region Fez-Boulemane, governor of the prefecture of Fez, as well as other figures.
