Nigeria Monday placed under close surveillance 59 people who have come into contact with a Liberian citizen who died of Ebola in commercial capital Lagos.
Patrick Sawyer, a consultant for Liberia's finance ministry, died Friday in a Lagos hospital, five days after entering Nigeria on an Asky Airline flight from Liberia's capital, Monrovia, via Lome in Togo.
The 59 people had come into contact with Sawyer at the hospital and at the airport in Lagos, dpa quoted Lagos State Commissioner for Health Jide Idris as saying.
Ebola has killed 672 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since it was first diagnosed in February.
