HMC and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) are jointly planning to establish a neuroscience institute by next year. It is expected that the proposed institute will look into four different categories of medical issues such as epilepsy, mood disorders and psychosis, trauma, stroke as well as road accidents. “HMC’s Managing Director Dr Hanan al-Kuwari and I have been asked by the Supreme Council of Health to establish a neuroscience institute which is a partnership between HMC and WCMC-Q and we are working on a comprehensive plan on the opening of the new institute,” WCMC-Q dean Dr Javaid Sheikh told mediapersons on the sidelines of the HMC Medical Education Day held on Tuesday. He said that a steering committee will soon be established to put together certain modular components within the neuroscience institute. Dr Sheikh mentioned that efforts to recruit a director for the institute’s programme will soon be underway.
