The Jordan Medical Association JMA said on Saturday that two on-duty doctors were assaulted at public hospitals in Amman and Irbid becoming the latest victims in a phenomenon that drew swift condemnation by health authorities. It demanded action to punish the perpetrators and protect public sector doctors from such abuses.The JMA said an on-duty doctor at the Tutanji Hospital in the Amman suburb of Sahab was beaten last night by relatives of a patient and was admitted to the surgical ward suffering serious injuries.A day earlier, it added, a doctor at the Princess Basma Government Hospital in the northern city of Irbid was assaulted physically and verbally by a relative of a patient. It gave no details about his condition.The association demanded that the Ministry of Health take legal action against the attackers to stem this phenomenon and ensure the protection of medical staff in public health facilities.
