Valletta - Xinhua

Maltese Parliamentary Secretary for Health Christopher Fearne launched a nationwide, cervical cancer screening campaign on Monday.

The program is expected to screen some 33,000 women aged between 25 and 35 at health centers across the country. Fearne said the program could reduce the number of cervical cancer cases by 75 %.

A month-long national awareness campaign was also launched.

There are 10 to 15 cases of cervical cancer detected in Malta annually, resulting in around five deaths.
