Malaysia records first bird flu case of Chinese tourist

Malaysia has discovered the first bird flu (H7N9) case of a Chinese tourist visiting Sabah state, according to the country's Ministry of Health. The man aged 67 from Quangdong Province in China was admitted into the intensive care unit in Kota Kinabalu hospital in Sabah, Malaysian Minister of Health S Subramaniam told the media on Thursday. The H7N9 virus is mainly common among birds, and is rare among humans, said the minister. The Chinese man had received medications in China on January 30, just four days prior to his arrival in Malaysia, after showing symptoms of flu like high fever, cough, joint pain and fatigue, he added. This is the first Chinese bird flu case, with the World Health Organization (WHO)'s statistics showing that there are currently 330 bird flu cases recorded around the world, with 65 dead by the disease
