Macao Foundation donates $3.92m for cataract patients

Macao Foundation has donated 24 million yuan (3.92 million U.S. dollars) to charity to finance treatment of cataracts in China's poverty-stricken areas. The donation will be used to offer free treatment for about 3,000 cataract patients in the provinces of Hubei and Gansu, respectively in central and western China. Part of the donation will be used to purchase facilities and rennovate a train owned by the Chinese Foundation for Lifeline Express (CFLE), which serves as a mobile hospital. Moreover, the donation will cover the expense of training two ophthalmologists, as well as construction and equiping of a local medical center. Founded in 1992, the CFLE raises funds from non-governmental sectors to treat cataract patients in China's poor regions. The first train hospital was bought by people in Hong Kong in 1997. Now, the CFLE has four train hospitals and has completed cataract operations on more than 140,000 patients in 29 provincial-level regions in China.
