The new Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital in the emirate of Umm Al Qawain has commenced trial operations and is expected to be officially inaugurated in next March. The facility, funded by the President's Initiatives Follow up Committee, will offer a wide range of clinical and healthcare services including general medicine and surgery, emergency and intensive care, and dental services. Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, and Dr. B. R. Shetty, Chief Executive Officer, New Medical Centre (NMC), signed a contract to operate and manage the Hospital. Al Za'abi, who also chairs the President's Initiatives Committee, said the state-of-the-art integrated health facility, is part of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's vital initiatives in the health sector and signifies HH's commitment to provide holistic healthcare services to citizens across the country. ''The AED 550 million hospital will contribute to upgrade quality and efficiency of health services, generate job opportunities for national health professionals and develop their capacities through the knowledge and experience they will gain from the highly professional administrative and medical cadres of the NMC,'' he added. The two-storey 47,000 square metre hospital will have the capacity of 203 beds and provide healthcare services in different specialisations. It has helipad and a parking facility that can accommodate up to 1014 cars.
