Islamic Heritage Society
New York - KUNA

The Islamic Heritage Society held a charitable event, which raised USD 10,000 for Ebola aid to be donated to the World Health Organization (WHO).
President of the Society, Soad Al-Otaibi, also spouse of Kuwaiti Permanent representative to the UN Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi, held the event at Kuwait Mission's headquarter late Tuesday, to help fight the epidemic which hit many countries in West Africa.
"It is our duty to help treat the affected patients as well as prevent further spread of the disease", said Al-Otaibi.
"They are in need of our help", she stressed, adding that "all of today's proceeds will go to the World Health Organization's benefit".
Al-Otaibi was overwhelmed by the turnout of attendees and expressed gratitude and appreciation to the organizers and to those who made the donations either by check, food and raffle prizes.
On his behalf, Executive Director of WHO office at the UN Dr. Jacob Kumaresan expressed his most appreciation of what the Islamic Heritage Society is doing to help people in need.
"On behalf of the World Health Organization, I thank you very much for your donation which will go a long way to help the victims of Ebola, especially women and children", she addressed the audience.
Main contributors of the amount donated were Kuwait, GCC, Libya, Bahrain as well as others.
The society was founded in 1972, with the aim of promoting Islamic civilization. They have been holding different events throughout the years of which the funds go to aid those in need.
Last year, the society organized a charitable bazaar, for aiding Syrian refugees in countries neighboring their crisis-struck nation.
Kuwait has donated USD 5 million to WHO to combat the spread of Ebola virus in West Africa.
