GFFCC to hold workshop on palliative care

The Gulf Federation for Cancer Control (GFFCC) will hold the second local workshop on palliative care on November 23-26 in collaboration with the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Middle East.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, GFFCC Secretary General Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh said that workshop aims at exchanging expertise and developing palliative care since it alleviates sufferings of patients.
"At least 400 cases out of 2,000 cases, who suffer from cancer disease, need annually the palliative care during receiving treatment," Dr. Al-Saleh said.
He referred to the success of the first event on the same field hosted by Kuwait in 2012.
Cooperation between the GFFCC and the WHO Regional Office in the Middle East contributes to carrying out constantly such workshops and other training sessions in collaboration with other medical centers on palliative care to serve patients, he added.
Dr. Al-Saleh pointed out that the first workshop recommended introducing palliative care to healthy curricula and providing specialized centers or palliative care units.
The workshop, in which a number of experts from the Middle East region participate, includes kinds of palliative care and different ways for treatment as well as other symptoms associated with cancer.
For her part, Dr. Amina Al-Ansari, an expert of palliative care, said the workshop aims at training calibers, who were selected by the WHO, to work in this field.
She added the training program focuses on treating pain and the rest of its symptoms as well as psychotherapy and nutrition.
