A man whose foot was cut off in a fight in Sharjah was rushed to Al Qassimi Hospital where a team of surgeons reattached his foot to his leg in a complicated four-hour operation.

The Asian man in his 30s underwent the critical surgery after witnesses reported the incident to police and medical emergency authorities responded to the scene and whisked him off to hospital via ambulance.

Police said the man’s foot was severed by an unidentified suspect wielding a large cleaver.

The foot was cut straight through and only the skin was still attached to his leg.

The victim was left bleeding on the road for about two hours

The incident took place nine days ago and the man has since been reported in a stable condition and discharged from hospital.

Dr. Zaki Khalifa Al Muzki, Head of the Surgical Department at Al Qassimi Hospital, performed the surgery.

Dr. Hussein Ahmad Latif was also involved in the extremely delicate reattachment of the foot.

“It’s a pretty tricky procedure,” said Dr Al Muzki. “Surgeons replanted the arteries and veins, tendons, nerves, bones and then they fused the ankle.”

Describing it as a rare case, Dr Al Muzki said the man was transferred to the orthopaedic department to ensure proper recovery.

Sharjah police said the man is expected to be questioned following his discharge from the hospital
