Darfur hit with yellow fever outbreak

A yellow fever outbreak in the Darfur region of Sudan has killed 67 people, the United Nations Health Agency reported. The number of yellow fever cases in the area has more than doubled since the outbreak began last month, the agency added Wednesday in a statement. The disease, caused by a mosquito-borne virus, affects an estimated 200,000 people per year, with as many as 30,000 reported deaths, the U.N.'s World Health Organization said, adding that 225 health workers are being trained in Darfur on disease surveillance, case management and infection prevention and control.
