
A conference on leukemia and stem cell transplant opened on Saturday under auspices of Minister of Health Dr. Saad Al-Obaidi with a number of local and foreign experts in the field taking part.In his address to the opening session on behalf of the minister, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Dentistry Affairs Dr. Youssof Al-Dowairi said the ministry is keen on encouraging such scientific activities which provide an opportunity for sharing experience with eminent consultants from around the globe."Participants in the activities of the two-day conference will exchange experience on the latest scientific achievements in the fields of early diagnosis and treatment of leukemia, which help improve healthcare for citizens and expatriates in Kuwait," Dr. Al-Dowairi pointed out.He lauded the efforts made by the organizing committee for setting the stage for this conference.On his part, Dr. Salem Al-Shemmeri, head of chemotherapy division of Sheikha Badriya Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Center for Oncology and Stem Cell Transfusion, said the conference will debate several issues related to leukemia including the lymph node tumors and the latest methods of detection and medication."The Kuwaiti experts will present to their peers the positive results of the tests they have made in the field of marrow transplant," Dr. Al-Shemmeri, chairman of the conference and head of the Lymphoma unit at the center, added.The conference features a number of workshops and discussions on a number of cases at Sheikha Badriya Center.
