London - Arabstoday

Millions of people in UK don't bother themselves with basic personal hygiene because they are too busy or too lazy, a study has suggested. Researchers have found that barely half of British adults always wash their hands with soap after visiting the toilet. Moreover, a quarter of workers claim to be too rushed to wash and dry their hands properly after nipping to the loo. 58 per cent of men regularly skip morning shower, with a quarter admitting they would rather have the extra time in bed. One in three admitted that they simply couldn't be bothered, the Daily Express reported. According to the Global Hygiene Council, which released the Dettol HABIT study, even household jobs are getting ignored due to hectic lifestyles. One in 20 of the 2,000 adults polled for Dettol admitted, that the last time they cleaned their toilet was a month ago, and a quarter of lazy Britons change their bed sheets just once a month. An honest 11 per cent confessed that their homes were "quite dirty", 20 per cent had not cleaned or disinfected the refrigerator in over a year, and one in 20 had never done so. "We all live extremely busy lives and 21st century living is much faster paced than it was say 20 years ago," Professor John Oxford, Hygiene Council chairman, said. "However, there is no excuse for neglecting basic tasks like washing hands with soap after visiting the toilet and cleaning the home to a standard that is healthy for people to inhabit. "There is a stark difference between a tidy home and hygienically clean home. If people do not want to make the bed and put clothes away then so be it. But it's important to target the hygiene hot spots and properly clean and disinfect the areas which matter like kitchen surfaces, sinks and of course the toilet," he said. "Naturally we all want to have a lie-in but skipping a morning wash is both anti-social for the people who have to sit next to us at work and unhealthy," he added.
