Ban: Ebola is a huge-serious to be controlled within 6 - 9 months

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressed that Ebola is a "huge serious" challenge, and the goal is to stop Ebola transmission within 6-9 months.
"We are mobilizing in every possible way. We are together today to send out an international rescue call," he said.
Ban told the press after the UN system meeting on Ebola, that support in terms of people, material and funding are needed, from Governments, the private sector, financial institutions, non-governmental organizations and other groups at the grassroots.
Furthermore, Ban called the international community to contribute to the WHO Roadmap and to provide the USD 600 million needed for supplies in West Africa.
"The world can no longer afford to short-change global public health," he said.
The UN official confirmed that the disease is spreading faster than the response, and is evolving into a social challenge.
He also urged airlines and shipping companies not to cancel flights and docking to the affected countries, as banning flights and shipping services will not keep Ebola from spreading, but it will keep medical teams from reaching people most in need, he said.
Rumors and stigma can damage as much as the virus itself, he said.
