At least 470 women underwent mammogram for an early detection of cancer and only six cases were diagnosed with the disease during the month of October, the National Program for the Early Diction of Cancer announced Wednesday.
Head of the Program and head of the communicable disease hospital Dr. Hanna Al-Khawari said in a statement a total of 1,553 breast checkups were conducted through the program during a campaign that was launched in April and ended recently.
She added that more than 45 calls a day were being received from women who wanted to take appointments for mammogram checkups.
Even though the program ended, yet awareness seminars and lectures will be held at schools as part of schools' activities, Al-Khawari pointed out.
She encouraged women to still get their breasts screened for early detection of any cancer.
