Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abdelmalek Boudiaf said Thursday that Algiers represents "a significant share" of the total volume of health care production.
"Since Algiers is a showcase of the country, it will be given priority in the improvement of health care by the valuation of the available resources in addition to the upgrading of existing infrastructures and the consolidation of new institutions," Boudiaf said during a workshop on the restructuring of health services in Algiers.
For Boudiaf, the strategy of the sector is “mainly” grounded on the audit which covered all the provinces of the country and highlighted the positive points, “source of pride, but also the weaknesses which caused well-known dissatisfactions."
He said that the main lines of this strategy concern the medical and surgical emergencies as part of the pilot operation conducted in the emergency ward of Mustapha Pacha Hospital of Algiers by General Electric Company and the construction of new facilities as the new hospital of
Staoueli and the cardio-pediatric hospital of Mahelma (west of Algiers).
Concerning the health coverage of diseases as cancer, strokes, cardiac emergencies and major burns, the minister said that it will be ensured by reference centres, which some already exist and others to be built.
Moreover, Boudiaf said that despite all the results obtained in terms of health care improvement and the almost total elimination of prevailing transmissible illnesses, it is necessary to boost a revolution to provide the citizens with better health care.
