
A Judicial inquiry was opened against persons unknown for "second-degree murder and unintentional injuries" as a result of Wednesday's railway accident on the Algiers to Thenia line, the public prosecutor at the Court of Hussein-Dey, Mohamed Yahiaoui, told APS on Thursday.
"The investigations opened on the very day of the accident will determine the causes and responsibilities relating to the case," Yahiaoui said.
"The investigating magistrate has already issued the letters rogatory to judicial police and scientific police to check all the leads."
The most senior examining magistrate at the Court of Hussein-Dey, Latifa Mengalati, has been appointed to prepare, as quickly as possible, the case for judgment.
A train bound for Thenia, province of Boumerdes (50-km east of Algiers), coming from the railway station of Agha, in the Algerian capital, derailed at eight o'clock Wednesday morning, 150 meters from the station of Hussein Dey, killing a 55-year-old-woman and injuring 65 people among the passengers.
