Algeria’s biotechnology development strategy has been highlighted at BIO International Convention, held in Boston (United States, from 18 to 21 June) with the participation of Algeria as guest of honour. The Algerian delegation attending the major global biotechnology event is led by Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Djamel Ould Abbes. In his presentation of innovative pharmaceutical industry outlook 2020 in Algeria to the industrial and scientific panel devoted to biotechnology in oil-producing countries, the Director of Pharmacy at the Health Ministry Hamou Hafed underlined that biotechnologies in Algeria are a lever for scientific, technological and economic development. "Algeria’s pharmaceutical industry is still young but is expected to grow rapidly," he told the world experts in biotechnology. The policy carried out by the Algerian government for the promotion of local pharmaceutical production has encouraged investment, especially among private operators, as about forty approved projects were recorded in 2011, he added.
